Players competed for the prestige and a prize of $115,000 at the Squash Colombia Open 2016 in Cartagena, which concluded its events on 20 February. The tournament began on 16 February.
Four Egyptians squash players participated in this tournament: champion Mohamed El-Shorbagy, Omar Mosaad in fourth, Tarek Momen in eighth, and the chamipion’s brother Marwan El-Shorbagy in eleventh.
In the first match of the quarter-finals, Mohamed El-Shorbagy defeated English player Tom Richards, ranked 23rd internationally, with scores of 11-7, 11-8, and 11-5.
His brother, Marwan, won against Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez, ranked fifth internationally, with scores of 5-11, 11-4, 11-8, and 11-4. Momen defeated Australian Cameron Pilley, ranked 13th internationally, with scores of 11-8, 11-9, and 11-7. Omar Mosaad beat Indian Saurav Ghosal, ranked 18th internationally, and the result was 11-4, 11-5 and 12-10.
What followed were two spectacular semi-final matches, comprising of just Egyptian players.
Mohamed El-Shorbagy played against his brother Marwan El-Shorbagy. The victory was for Mohamed with scores of 11-4, 11-7, 9-11, and 11-8. Mosaad won in the second semi-final match playing against Momen, with scores of 11-8, 11-7, 4-11, 5-11, and 9-11.
Mohamed El-Shorbagy won the final match against his compatriot Mosaad with the final result of 3-1.
