The State Security Prosecution unit ordered Thursday the release of detained journalist Hossam Al-Din Al-Sayed.

Al-Sayed was accused of belonging to the banned Muslim Brotherhood group. Although the prosecution asserted he was not guilty, he is yet to be released.

He was arrested last October after police forces stormed into the Mada organisation

Mada is a civil society organisation that aims at media and societal development in countering violence and other societal issues. It also organises training courses for civil servants to raise their awareness on conflict resolutions in their day to day work encounters.

He has been detained ever since.

Days before the prosecution’s order to release Al-Sayed, he was reported to have been transferred into a hospital after his health deteriorated.

The Press Syndicate has presented several reports to the General Prosecution demanding the release of a number of journalists, including Al-Sayed.
