The Egyptian Rural Development Company, the main developer of the project for reclamation of 1.5m acres, will consult with international, experienced companies in order to aid implementation the project, according to Prime Minister Sherif Ismail.
The government targets for the project are to increase the agricultural area by 20%.
Ismail called on all government agencies concerned with the project to finalise all procedures to begin implementation of and follow-up of the proposed projects of the Egyptian Rural Development Company.
“The government supports the company in the implementation of all activities in the new model for development,” Ismail said in a press release on Sunday after meeting with ministers of Planning, Finance, Irrigation, and Agriculture as well as head of the Egyptian Rural Development Company.
During the meeting, the company’s chairman, Ahmed El-Sayed, said the Egyptian Rural Development Company aims to implement the government’s vision towards sustainable development and creation of the investment climate and to facilitate private investment.
El-Sayed reviewed the plans and strategies for the upcoming period, as well as the solutions proposed to meet the challenges that may arise. He also reviewed the studies on the lands and wells of the project.
The Egyptian Rural Development Company was established with a capital of EGP 8bn, contributed by the New Urban Communities Authority, the General Authority for Reconstruction Projects and Agricultural Development, and the Ministry of Finance.
