A number of rights NGOs and social media users launched a campaign in solidarity with journalist and researcher Ismail Alexandrani, calling for his release after 100 days of detention.

The campaign, featuring renowned NGOs such as the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR), Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights (ECESR), and the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE).

Alexandrani, a socio-political researcher, investigative journalist, and expert in extremism and Sinai affairs, was detained upon his arrival in Hurghada airport from Berlin late November, reportedly after the Egyptian embassy in Berlin issued a memorandum against him.

In the previous prosecution investigation, Alexandrani denied all charges directed against him.
