The 2016 Canary Wharf Squash Classic Tournament, which took place in London from 7 to 11 March, saw France’s Mathieu Castagnet win in the final match against Egypt’s Omar Mosaad.
The results of the final match were 6-11, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-5, resulting in Mosaad having to settle for second place.
This is Castagnet’s first time to win the Canary Wharf Squash Classic, the prize money for which was $70,000.
Mosaad managed to reach the final match after defeating Spain’s Borja Golán during the semi-finals, with a result of 8-11, 11-13, 11-6, 11-9 and 11-5.
Also in the semi-finals, Castagnet defeated Australia’s Cameron Pilley with the results of 11-9, 11-13, 11-1 and 13-11.
Mosaad was not the only Egyptian squash player participating in the event, which also included Egyptian players Fares Dessouki, Marwan El Shorbagy and Mohammed Ali Anwar Reda.
El-Shorbagy and Reda lost during the tournament’s first round, resulting in their exit from the squash classic.
Dessouki exited the tournament after losing to Golán in the quarter-finals with a score of 8-11, 11-5, 5-11 and 5-11.
