The Ministry of Communications released a report last week detailing citizens’ internet usage by device in a month-on-month comparison of October and November 2015. Overall, mobile devices are the top choice for accessing the internet.
The number of mobile users increased by 0.58% last November, compared to October; registering 93.6 million users in November and 93.1 million in the previous month.
In a year over year comparison, the number of mobile users declined by 1.6% in November 2015 compared to the same period in 2014, as 95.2 million users were registered in November 2014.
The report revealed a decline in the number of internet users during November 2015, registering 32.5 million, compared to 33.8 million in October 2015. The number of mobile internet users also declined by 3.3% in November compared to October.
Despite the decline, mobile devices remained most-used among the other means of internet access; the number of users accessing the internet through mobiles was to 25 million. The number of users accessing the internet through USB devices was 3.8 million, though that number decreased by 0.86% in November 2015 compared to October 2015.
The number of ADSL internet users saw a slight growth, estimated at 1%, where they increased from 3.7 million users in October 2015 to 3.73 million users in November 2015.
According to the report, Greater Cairo acquired the largest share of ADSL internet users with 45%, while Delta governorates acquired 27%. As for Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria, they together acquired 12%. Upper Egypt governorates’ share amounted to 10%, and the governorates of Sinai and the Red Sea acquired the remained 6%.
