Ministry of Finance denies applying VAT on international schools

The value added tax (VAT) will not be applied on tuition for international schools, the Ministry of Finance said in an official statement.

Earlier this week, in an interview with privately-owned newspaper Al-Youm Al-Sabaa, chairperson of the Egyptian Tax Authority Abdel Moneim El Sayed Mattar announced that tuition to international private schools will be subjected to the VAT.

The news resulted is a viral backlashes on social media.

“We educate our children in international schools because the education system is a failure … we invest all our money in our children because it is the only thing that will benefit them,” one Facebook post read.
