Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser El-Qadi will name new managers of ministry-affiliated associations, including a new CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), by the end of March, according to an official ministry source.
El-Qadi had previously told Daily News Egypt that he agreed with a number of executives from private companies to assume responsibility of a number of associations affiliated with the ministry. He explained that the announcement of those nominees has been delayed since they are still bound by contracts with their companies.
Hussein El-Gueretly, former CEO of ITIDA, resigned last November due to the minister’s insistence that ITIDA should contribute to the establishment of a holding company of technological zones with a share of 9%, estimated at EGP 250m of the total proposed capital of EGP 2.8bn.
El-Gueretly refused the minister’s request, stressing that ITIDA’s role is to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), while the private sector is responsible for financing technological zones.
The post of CEO of National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) is also still vacant since former CEO Hesham Alayli’s contract ended last May.
Head of Communications Division of the Chamber of Information Technology Industry owed the delay in appointing new managers of ministry-affiliated associations to the maximum wage law, especially as the wage of executives in the private sector is very high.
The new law determined a wage ceiling of EGP 42,000 for all government officials.
