The Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission in Sinai evacuated checkpoints in North Sinai following a deadly attack on Saturday.
An informed security source told Daily News Egypt that the MFO is temporarily evacuating the sites, in order to enhance the security of the checkpoints and to ensure safe routes for logistics, after repeated deadly attacks by militants in the area.
The MFO evacuated on Sunday Al-Zahir and Al-Mawasi checkpoints south of Sheikh Zuweid, some hours after the attack on Al-Safa checkpoint that resulted in the killing of 15 police officers and soldiers.
Other sources said the Egyptian armed forces have been temporarily handed control over the checkpoints.
The MFO evacuated two other checkpoints in Rafah earlier this month for the same reasons.
