The North Cairo Criminal Court upheld the decision to release anti-torture T-shirt detainee Mahmoud Mohamed Hussein during Thursday’s session, his brother Tarek ‘Tito’ confirmed to Daily News Egypt.

“Thank God! Thank God!,” he cried with joy.

On Tuesday, the court had ordered the release of Hussein and co-defendant Islam Talaat on bail of 1,000 EGP each. However, the prosecution filed an appeal against the decision, which was rejected today.

Hussein has been in detention since his arrest on 25 January 2014, wearing a T-shirt reading “nation without torture.” He has never been referred to trial though within these two years.
