With tulle, sequin, pearls, and organza scattered around their creative space, the Alazzouni sisters transform their old-school sketches into dreamy gowns and matching accessories. Razan Alazzouni is a Saudi-base designer who is brining a world of sophistication and elegance to the fashion scene.

The 29-year-old designer is an advocate of the Saudi fashion scene which has gained more prominence in recent seasons. Her label features haute couture dresses that have been the choice of many A-list Hollywood stars, as well as spectacular accessories and footwear.

The label is undoubtedly glamorous, with fashion staples to build up a classic wardrobe as well as show-stopping pieces. The latest spring collection, which was launched during London Fashion Week, is a celebration of working women who seek professionalism and utter sophistication in their style. According to the designer, this collection mainly focuses on individual pieces, aiming to allow  her customers to balance a life between meetings at the office and after-work fun.

The intricate hand embroidery and extravagant layering of fabrics showcase the designer’s appreciation of Hollywood’s golden age. This collection also marks the designer’s first time incorporating mink into her designs.

Each detail, including the colour pallet, was exquisite; each piece reflects Alzzouni’s deep understanding of art, texture, and silhouettes.

The designer met with Daily New Egypt  to discuss her aesthetic, favourite Hollywood clients, and her plans for the future.

Growing up, what interested you the most about fashion and art?

I was always fascinated by art and how fashion developed from it, and how different periods throughout history have a signature touch or style. In my last year of college, I realised that most of my artwork was fashion-based and things just developed from there.

How would you define your style?

I think my style would be defined as classical with a modern twist. My favourite signature is detailed embroidery.

Out of all the celebrities that you have dressed, who was the most special to you?

Elizabeth Banks, who starred in the “Hunger Games” film series. I am a huge fan of her as well as the franchise. Furthermore, I love how she styled and accessorised my dress; it certainly reflected the essence of the brand.

Your label offers haute couture gowns, jewellery, and shoes; how is each task different from the other?

I actually only design the clothes, whereas the jewellery and shoes are designed by my partner and amazing sister Raya. I believe that what makes our brand successful is that we learned how to delegate and divide responsibly. Each of us has our own particular department, which complements the other.

Saudi designers are finally starting to dominate a fair share of the regional spotlight. In your opinion, what is the X factor that Saudi designers add to the regional scene?

I think Saudi designers are very artistic and are not afraid to express it. That is what sets them apart.

Many stores across the region stock your brand; when will we see your designs in Egypt?

It takes time to develop brand awareness; we hope to be stocked in Egypt soon. I truly hope so.
