President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi signed six cooperation conventions with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Abdel Aziz and discussed other bilateral relations during their meeting on Sunday at Itihadiya palace, presidency spokesperson Alaa Youssef said.
At the start of the meeting, Al-Sisi granted the Order of the Nile to Abdel Aziz, which is Egypt’s highest state honour.
The first convention was a maritime cooperation, which was signed by Mauritanian foreign minister Ahmed Ould Teguedi and the Egyptian Minister of Transportation Saad Al-Geioushy. The second was a cooperation in the housing, utilities, and urban communities which was signed by Ould Teguedi and Egyptian minister of housing Mostafa Madbouly.
The two sides also signed an executive programme for cultural cooperation, for the period of 2016-19, which was signed by Ould Teguedi and Egyptian culture minister Gaber Asfour. The fourth convention was a cooperation agreement for livestock, and was signed by Mauritanian minister of livestock Fatma Vall Mint Soueinae and the Egyptian agriculture minister Essam Fayyed.
A convention in the field of health was signed by the Egyptian health minister Ahmed Emad El-Din and his Mauritanian counterpart Boubacar Kane. Another convention was signed in the field of oil and minerals by Egyptian minister of petroleum and Mineral Resources and his Mauritanian counterpart.
Abdel Aziz arrived in Cairo for a three-day visit, in what is considered the first official visit of a Mauritanian representative to Egypt, state-run MENA reported.
Abdel Aziz will take a tour to inspect some of the economic and investment projects in Egypt. The Mauritanian president will also meet several people in business in a bid to foster economic cooperation between both countries.
