The National Telecommunication Regulatory Agency’s (NTRA) report for March 2016 revealed the continuation of a decline in the quality of call services across the three mobile operators—Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat—for the second consecutive month.

NTRA’s report was based on trials of more than 37,100 phone calls through the three mobile operators during March in Greater Cairo. The trials monitored 77 call interruptions, while 322 calls were blocked, an increase from 164 blocked calls in February.

Vodafone topped the three mobile phone companies in terms of mobile voice service quality, as only 70 calls were blocked and around 24 calls were cut, from a total of 12,500 phone calls. Etisalat came in second by conducting 12,400 trial calls, of which 41 calls were cut and 112 calls were blocked.

Orange ranked last as 140 calls were blocked and 12 calls were cuts out of a total of 12,200 conducted trials.

The three companies did not exceed the maximum ratio of interrupted or blocked calls set by NTRA, estimated at 2% of the total trial calls.

The NTRA’s quality index for browsing the internet through the telecommunications networks revealed that Mobinil topped the three mobile phone companies in Greater Cairo for the second month in a row.

NTRA’s report was based on 14,200 trials for browsing the internet through the three telecommunications networks.

NTRA conducted 4,500 internet connection trials through Orange, two trials of which were blocked and there were no internet cuts. Etisalat came in second by conducting 4,800 trials, seven of which were blocked. Vodafone ranked last after 10 internet connections were blocked out of a total of 4,900 trials.
