Security forces arrested one of the members of the local band “Street Children” from his home on Friday at dawn, according to the band’s official page on Facebook.
The band is famous for making satirical videos on Facebook about ongoing political events and leaders, namely President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
The band announced that their member, Ezz, is currently being investigated at the Heliopolis prosecution.
In one of their latest videos, published on 3 May, the band criticised the increasing number of arrests. They also confronted the alleged accusations of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood and receiving foreign funding.
Their videos, which also tackle the day-to-day lives of citizens, were all shot on the streets. The videos gained wide support and their page has drawn in more than 200,000 likes.
This comes amid further crackdowns on activists since the beginning of 2016.
The prosecution ordered on Friday the detention of human rights lawyer Malek Adly for 15 days after he was arrested from his home on Thursday night.
