British and Egyptian military cooperation was reaffirmed at a meeting on Thursday between the senior defence adviser for the Middle East at the British ministry of defence, Lieutenant General Tom Beckett, and a number of senior military officials at the Egyptian Ministry of Defence.
At the meeting, Beckett put an emphasis on Egypt’s role as “an important military partner in the region” against the Islamic State.
Since 3 July 2013, Egypt has been militarily and diplomatically involved in the fight against militant groups in the region, often receiving military and political support from the UK and the US.
On Thursday, the US delivered the first shipment of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles to the Egyptian military via the port of Alexandria, the US embassy said.
