Mobile subscriptions post minor growth while internet users grow to 33.2m in February

The number of mobile subscriptions increased from 94.1 million users in January to 94.6 million users in February, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology at the end of last week.

According to the report, the mobile subscriptions index recorded 0.48% growth in February compared to January, whereas it has declined by 1.1% in a comparison with the same period in 2015.

On the other hand, the report has shown a significant increase in the number of internet users, increasing from 26.2 million users in January to 33.2 million users in February.

The ministry’s indexes have shown a significant increase in the number of mobile phone internet users, where the number of subscribers increased from 19.7 million users in January to 25.7 million users in February 2016, a growth rate of 30%.

The number of internet users using USB modems increased from the 2.7 million users registered in January to 3.6 million users in February, a growth rate of 30.1%.

According to the report, the number of asymmetric digital subscriber line users increased from 3.8 million users in January to 3.93 million users in February, a growth of 3.4%.

The number of landline users declined from 6.3 million users in January to 6.2 million users in February, a 2% decline.
