Huawei’s smartphone products saw a significant sales increase last year, boosting its market share to 13% at the end of last year from 2% in 2014, head of the Devices Sector in North Africa Bruce Van said.

Sales indicators are moving forward steadily, Van said in a press release at the launch ceremony of Huawei’s newest phone P9. The company successfully raised its market share to 16% by the end of March. Moreover, Huawei plans to boost the share to 25-30% at the end of the year.

During the first quarter of this year, the company achieved 50% of its smartphone revenue achieved in Egypt over 2015.

The company plans to focus on increasing its deployment to increase consumer brand awareness for Huawei, by adding more partnerships with distributors and increasing sales outlets that bear the company’s brand, as well as offering more customer service centres.

Van said surveys conducted at the end of the first quarter of this year showed that 93% of Egyptian consumers are aware of Huawei’s brand, while in 2015, the ratio stood at 88%.

He pointed out that the company spends 10% of its revenue on research and development. Furthermore, it plans to establish a research centre to serve the Middle East and North Africa from Dubai.

Huawei celebrated the launch of its new P9 smartphone, which was manufactured in cooperation with the German camera company, Leica. The phone has a dual lens camera that takes higher quality pictures. Huawei specialises in providing communications solutions and information technology and employs 17,000 employees worldwide.
