Careem, a company specialised in providing transport services by car, hires 2,000 new drivers or “captains” each month. This is in addition to 12,000 captains who are already employed, according a statement issued by the company on Thursday
The company provides a fixed income for thousands of Egyptian families and allows the captains to work flexible, convenient hours.
The company contributes to reducing the high unemployment rate in Egypt, which allows citizens from all areas to take advantage of the company’s alternative and distinctive employment opportunities.
The company said that the demand for Careem’s services continues to increase monthly, with a growth rate of 40% to 60%. More than 250 employees are working in Careem’s call centre in Egypt.
One of the captains, Hany Shehata, said that the company changed his outlook on how to teach his children, adding that technology is a key component in education today. Thus, he does not want to only teach his children, but he also wants them to receive the best education he can provide for them.
Another captain, Hiam Emadou said: “I began working for Careem when I became bankrupt. It is not hard labour but I earn good money and still have time for my two children. I am so grateful to Careem for providing me with this opportunity to work and earn a living.”
