The new headquarters of the Egyptian Prosecution in Fifth Settlement was inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Saturday morning in the attendance of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, the minister of justice as well as other ministers and officials from the prosecution, according to a press statement issued by the presidency.
The statement indicated that all offices of the previous prosecution headquarters were transferred to New Cairo.
The judiciary system in Egypt is receiving a great deal of attention from the government which is keen to provide its judges with privileges.
Recently, former minister of justice Ahmed Al-Zind was fired by Ismail. Al-Zind’s dismissal came in the wake of a backlash on social media calling for his immediate resignation and accusing him of ‘religious contempt’ after he made an inflammatory remark about the prophet.
During an interview with TV presenter Hamdy Rizk, broadcast on the privately-owned channel Sada El-Balad, Al-Zind said “I will imprison anyone who does wrong, even Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) himself” in response to Rizk’s question on imprisoning journalists.
Al-Zind was compared to previous minister of justice Mahfouz Saber, who resigned after saying that the sons of garbage collectors are unfit to occupy the position of a judge.
