The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Friday that the Egyptian delegation participating in the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA2) in Kenya “didn’t state any racist or insulting comments according to official investigations”.
The statement came in response to the memorandum written by Yvonne Khamati, which claimed that an Egyptian official had allegedly made racist comments by referring to Africans as ”dogs and slaves”.
The Foreign Ministry said a transcript and meeting points from the sessions proved that the allegations were “false”.
Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zaid said the Egyptian embassy in Nairobi is now assigned to present a memorandum calling for the sacking of Khamati.
Egypt has been leading negotiations on African affairs during many recent occasions. In May, while Egypt headed the UN Security Council, Shoukry vowed to push African issues forward and put the spotlight on security challenges facing the international community.
