After a dismal performance at the Copa America, the Brazilian national team have promptly given Carlos Dunga the sack. There was no immediate word about who would take over and lead the team into the Summer Olympics.
The Copa America was supposed to be a chance for the Selecao to redeem themselves after their humiliating exit from their home 2014 World Cup. But the country’s football federation, the CBF, announced on Tuesday that it was saying goodbye to Carlos Dunga after the team again underperformed.
“The Brazilian Football Confederation decided this Tuesday to dissolve the technical commission of the Brazilian national team,” the CBF said in a short statement. “National teams coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi, coach Dunga and their entire team will leave their posts. The CBF has began the process of choosing a new technical commission for the Brazilian team.”
Brazil went out of the centenary edition of the South and North American tournament in the group after beating Haiti, drawing with Ecuador and losing the decisive match to Peru. It was the first time since 1987 the Selecao had failed to progress beyond the first round of the Copa.
The favorite to succeed Dunga is Corinthians 55-year-old manager Tite.
