Shorouk Geneina, the daughter of former head of the Central Auditing Agency (CAO) Hisham Geneina, expressed her agitation towards the decision made to dismiss her from her position as a prosecutor at the Administrative Prosecution Authority.
On Monday, Shorouk was summoned from the inspection department of the prosecution to be informed that she was being dismissed from her job by order of presidential decree.
According to Shorouk, the decision did not include any reason for why she was being dismissed and did not include routine procedures for disciplinary action or internal investigations.
Shorouk rejected rumours that claimed the reason for her dismissal was due to her committing crucial mistakes in her work.
“This claim is completely not true according to my direct supervisors,” she said.
The decision to dismiss Shorouk remains highly ambiguous. Some attributed her dismissal to her often critical posts on Facebook. However, she also rejected those claims as she had already been summoned for a previous post on former justice minister Ahmed Al-Zind, but investigations into this incident were closed.
“This makes me question the reason behind targeting me alone in this procedure and during this particular time,” Shorouk concluded.
The decision comes during the trial of her father, Hisham Geneina, who was dismissed in March over claims of corruption in Egypt. He claimed the value of money lost due to state corruption was estimated at EGP 600bn in 2015 alone.
Geneina was referred to a misdemeanour court earlier in June, after a few days of investigations by the supreme state security prosecution, on charges of disrupting public disorder and harming national security.
The prosecution believes his claims of corruption are inaccurate, according to an earlier statement by the general prosecutor office in early June. The statement cited testimonies that stated this number includes records dating several years back to 2008 and not just 2015.
