Two police officers were killed in Al-Arish, North Sinai, in the early hours of Thursday morning, said the Interior Ministry in an official statement.

The officers were killed inside their homes, which are located in the Masaeed district near an Arish police station. Four anonymous gunmen attacked with open fire on their homes, according to the ministry.

“The attackers are still unknown; however, there are increased efforts to identify them,” the ministry said.

Clashes between state security forces and Islamic State-affiliated “Sinai Province” militants have intensified recently as security forces continue Operation Martyr’s Right.

Six police conscripts were killed and six were injured in late May in Qabr Omeir village near Sheikh Zuweid, North Sinai sources previously told Daily News Egypt.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces have continued their strikes against militants based in North Sinai. They announced that 36 militants were killed across the cities of Al-Arish, Sheikh Zuweid, and Rafah in late May.
