In response to her arbitrary dismissal from the Administrative Prosecution Authority, Shorouk Geneina, the daughter of the former top auditor, said she will take legal action against the decision.

Shorouk also denied purported claims that she or her father, who is currently standing trial, belong to any outlawed organisations. “This sounds ridiculous. I was appointed by the current president. If we had any affiliation with an outlawed group there wouldn’t have been a presidential approval for my appointment in this position,” she said.

She also denied that her father’s position as former head of the Central Auditing Agency (CAO) facilitated her approval in joining the Administrative Prosecution, highlighting that she had studied legal studies in the United States and previously worked in global law firms, which qualifies her to join the APA.

On Monday, Shorouk was summoned by the prosecution’s inspection department and informed that she was being dismissed from her job by order of presidential decree.

The decision comes during the trial of her father, Hisham Geneina, who was dismissed in March over his claims of corruption in Egypt. He claimed the value of money lost due to state corruption was estimated at EGP 600bn in 2015 alone.

Geneina was referred to a misdemeanour court earlier in June, after a few days of investigations by the supreme state security prosecution, on charges of disrupting public disorder and harming national security.
