The Cypriot and Egyptian governments signed on Friday a memorandum of understanding with the aim of combatting terrorism and preventing cross-border crime, according to state media.
Egyptian General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek travelled to Cyprus last week for a short visit to meet with his counterpart Attorney General Costas Clerides.
Sadek’s visit, which began Wednesday, also followed up on investigations into the March hijacking of an EgyptAir flight. Sadek and Cypriot authorities discussed the possible extradition of suspect Seif El-Din Mustafa to Egypt.
The agreement, signed by both officials, vows cooperation between the countries in fields of counter-terrorism.
The two officials praised relations between the their countries, but no statement was made regarding the extradition of El-Din Mustafa.
On 29 March, EgyptAir flight MS 181 travelling from Alexandria to Cairo was forced to reroute due to the demands of a hijacker and safely landed at Larnaca International Airport. Mustafa was identified as the hijacker.
