Workers at Egypt Foods have been on strike since Sunday night after the company allegedly suspended 21 workers. The snacks company had suspended the workers after they staged a minor demonstration last Wednesday.

The company and its factories are located in the industrial area in the district of Quisna, Menufiya.

The workers said that the Wednesday protest demanded annual bonuses, a raise in salaries, and the dismissal of certain managers. They estimated that 1,500 workers are participating in the current strike.

The workers also stated that the company decided to shut down the air conditioning devices in the factories, despite the rising temperatures.

A representative from Egypt Foods denied that the strike was taking place, telling Daily News Egypt over the phone that the factory is open and work is ongoing.

A senior manager at Egypt Foods could not be reached.

Negotiations have been ongoing between the workers and the management under the supervision of parliament members in Quisna.

Egypt Foods was formed in 2000 and manufactures snacks in Egypt.
