Jeep maintains sales growth despite US dollar shortage

Jeep sales in Egypt increased by 34% in the first four months of 2016, mainly boosted by its new model Renegade. Despite the shortage of US dollars in the Egyptian market, Jeep sold 997 units between January and April of this year, compared to 746 cars during the same period last year.

The Grand Cherokee, Renegade, and Wrangler led the sales of the US brand in Egypt .

Renegade overtook the Grand Cherokee by selling 432 units, while the latter was sold 416 times. Hence, the Grand Cherokee witnessed a sales increase of 5%, compared to 396 units sold in the first four months of last year.

The Jeep Wrangler suffered a dip, given its sales decrease of 57%. After selling 350 cars in the first four months of 2015, it sold only 149 cars during the same period this year.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the official agent of Jeep in Egypt, had halted orders for the Grand Cherokee and Renegade in early March.
In terms of the first quarter (Q1) of 2016, JEEP was able to increase its sales by 39%, supported by the Grand Cherokee.
Jeep sold 787 cars during the first three months of this year, compared to 565 cars year-on-year. Sales were mainly boosted by the Grand Cherokee, Renegade, and Wrangler.

With an increase of year-on-year sales of 21%, the Grand Cherokee was the most sold model with 356 units, compared to 294 units in Q1/2015.
The Grand Cherokee was followed by Renegade, which sold 315 cars. The Wrangler sold 116 units, suffering a sales decrease of 57%, as 271 units were bought in Q1 2015.
The Grand Cherokee’s price went up by EGP 60,000, while the Wrangler’s price increased by EGP 40,000. The Renegade’s price witnessed an additional EGP 25,000 on its selling price.
