British Airways (BA) has suspended its flights from Sharm El-Sheikh to Gatwick indefinitely, the company said on Monday.

The company justified this measure by saying that “the safety and security of our customers will always be our top priority”.

It added that customers who hold bookings on any cancelled services for the coming winter season can claim a full refund or can use the money to cover a booking with BA to an alternative destination.

The regional director of BA, Sherif Barsoum, told Daily News Egypt earlier this month that the company may restore its flights to the Egyptian resort destination by mid-September, but it seems that the situation has changed.

“The company has decided to resume its flights to Sharm El-Sheikh on 15 September, according to its schedules. However, the decision regarding the date is subject to the approval of the British government”, he had said.

The UK halted its flights to and from Egypt in the wake of the Russian plane crash in Sinai on 31 October 2015.
