Egypt Foods decided to reinstate 21 workers, who had been suspended due to ongoing strikes at the company, among meeting other demands.
The company made the decision during a meeting between the minister of manpower, the company’s board director, and representatives from the workers.
During the meeting, the three sides agreed on decisions to solve the issues that had arisen, and to ensure the continuation of work at the company. The decisions included implementing the workers’ demands, allowing them to review monthly salary sheets, and forming a committee to act as the workers’ union, in order to build a communication channel between workers and the management.
The workers strikes demanded annual bonuses, a raise in salaries, and the dismissal of certain managers. It is estimated that 1,500 workers participated in the strike.
On 19 June, the company allegedly suspended 21 workers due to ongoing strikes.
The workers had also complained about the company’s decision to shut down air conditioning devices in the factories, despite the rising temperatures.
Negotiations have been ongoing between the workers and the management under the supervision of parliament members in Quisna.
The company and its factories are located in the industrial area in the district of Quisna, Menufiya. Egypt Foods was formed in 2000 and manufactures snacks in Egypt.
