Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi met with the US congress delegation on Sunday during their visit to Cairo, the ministry said in an official statement.
A US congress delegation led by Dana Rohrabacher, chairperson of the Europe, Eurasia, and emerging threats subcommittee of the US house of representatives, is currently on a visit to Cairo to meet President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and an array of other senior government and private sector officials.
During the meeting between Rohrabacher and Sobhi, both parties discussed regional security developments and efforts to counter terrorism, among other issues of common concern between both countries.
Sobhi recognised the Egypt-US ties and highlighted the importance of unifying those efforts to combat terrorism threats on regional and international levels.
Meanwhile, the congress delegation members affirmed their support to the Egyptian efforts in this regard and recognised economic development endeavours.
The congress delegation met with other government officials and private sector leaders later on Sunday.
Several US congress delegations have visited Egypt in the past few months and also met with Al-Sisi and other senior officials.
Sobhi had met with another congress representative in mid-June, where both sides reviewed bilateral military and economic cooperation.
