The Israeli air force launched airstrikes on four locations in Gaza Strip early Saturday, in response to a rocket launched from the strip to the Sderot settlement, according to a statement from the Israeli army spokesperson.
The statement added that the raids “targeted four locations that were components of Hamas’ operational infrastructure in the northern and central Gaza Strip”.
The strikes caused damage, but no injuries occurred, according to Palestinian sources.
According to the Israeli statement, the rocket launched from the strip hit a building in the Sderot settlement without causing injuries.
No groups in Gaza have yet claimed responsibility for launching the rocket.
The Israeli strikes come one day after the lockdown of the Palestinian city of Hebron in response to recent attacks.
A young Palestinian stabbed an Israeli in the settlement of Kiryat Arbaa near Hebron leading to tension in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, the Middle East Quartet said in a report on Friday that “lack of control of Gaza by the Palestinian Authority and the dire humanitarian situation” cause “instability and ultimately impede efforts to achieve a negotiated solution”.
The Quartet, which includes the United States, the European Union, Russia, and the United Nations, said that “preventing the use of territory for attacks against Israel is a key commitment that is essential to long-term peace and security”.
