5 January 1899 saw the issuance of the first Egyptian paper banknote, while the first EGP 200 bill was issued by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) on 3 April 2007.

The CBE owns a museum devoted to the history of the Egyptian currency, and on its website the CBE has a page documenting the development of banknotes in Egypt.

According to the CBE, the first paper banknote of EGP 1 was issued in January 1899 and was replaced by another version on 15 May 1979.

The CBE also issued the first EGP 0.25 bill on 8 May 1952, before it was replaced by a newer banknote on 15 November 1979.

Meanwhile, the first version of the EGP 0.5 bill was issued on 1 January 1899, and replaced by a newer one on 16 May 1981.

The first EGP 5 banknote was introduced on 10 January 1899, and replaced on 17 June 1981.

The market saw the first EGP 10 banknote on 1 January 1912, which was later retracted and replaced by a new one on 19 June 1979.

The first EGP 20 bill was issued on 15 May 1977.

As for the EGP 50 banknote, the first bill was issued on 21 March 1904, and replaced on 17 March 1993.

The EGP 200 banknote was issued for the first time on 15 January 1899, and replaced on 15 May 1979.
