In a press release, the European Union (EU) said on Monday that their funded Technical Assistance to Support the Reform of the Energy Sector (TARES) project in Egypt could save an amount og energy that equals 20m tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe) by 2035.
If the total energy consumption in 2035 is 112 Mtoe, the TARES project will save 18% of the total consumption, the press release added. This amount of energy efficiency will be noticeable in the construction (saving 8.6 Mtoe), industrial (saving 6.76 Mtoe), and transport (4.5 Mtoe) sectors.
The press release came after the first Energy Efficiency Governance workshop, which included an EU delegation, along with the ministries of electricity and renewable energy, and petroleum and mineral resources.
According to the press release, TARES aims to “improve energy policy and regulatory framework, and promote energy efficiency”, while enabling those who attend the workshop to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions.
