A delegation from Zain Telecom met with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology to discuss plans regarding the implementation of 4G networks in Egypt, according to a press release issued by the prime minister’s office.
Ismail said that the government is keen on offering all the facilities needed to attract more local and international investments in many different sectors, especially in the information and communication technology sector.
Ismail welcomed Zain’s proposal for the sector in Egypt, as the company is planning to put forth a large sum of investment the coming period.
During the meeting, Zain’s delegation displayed future investment plans for the information and communication technology sector in Egypt, especially in 4G licenses and building smart cities. Zain showed interest in investing in telecommunications, since it is one of the most promising sectors in Egypt, the press release added.
In an earlier statement made in May 2016, the cabinet agreed on issuing 4G licenses in the Egypt, according to the regulations of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
The adaptation of the 4G network will allow Egypt to increase its resources, and improve the available services for its citizens in this sector, the press release added. The license will be available for service providers and operators in August. If any of the service providers refuse to adopt the technology, it will be put up for international bidding.
The cabinet also ordered the NTRA to delegate the task of creating the licenses to its management board, while adhering to the monetary, technical, and organisational regulations that are listed in the telecommunications regulatory act no. 10 of 2003.
This falls under the framework of developing the telecommunications sector in Egypt, and catching up with the international market, the press release stated.
