Board member of the Egyptian Private Equity Association (EPEA) Haitham Wagih said the association is currently penning the framework for issuing the first certified certificate for training financial analysts in direct investment—which would be the first of its kind in Egypt.

Wagih said that EPEA is currently establishing bridges of communication with banks and investment companies operating in the local market to discuss the best mechanisms for conducting trainings with experts in need of certificates in the field of direct investment.

He pointed out that the move is primarily driven by the lack of these types of financial analysts in the market. EPEA aims to become the first to train them to create a new generation of analysts capable of running direct investment funds in the future.

In general, EPEA seeks to establish and promote a well-developed ecosystem for the private equity, venture capital, and angel investment industries, through awareness, advocacy, and the targeting of various industry stakeholders. These stakeholders include: the government and regulator, funding sources, potential investors, and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as service providers such as auditing firms, legal advisors, and business and financial consultants.

The association plays a key role in raising awareness among SMEs, especially with regard to investing in stocks, accessing investors, negotiating contracts, and managing relations with new partners.

Sherif Samy, chairperson of Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority, earlier said that the authority is putting together standards for granting licences for investing managers at investment funds and financial portfolios, as a main step towards developing the industry of investment funds. He noted that all investment activities require developing professional certificates that are granted by academies and associations.

EPEA organised a conference for experts in financial analysing and direct investment in Egypt between 28 November and 8 December to discuss directs investment, evaluate investment opportunities in Egypt, and showcase potential opportunities for investment in fields of healthcare and energy.
