Three non-commissioned police officers were injured in a shooting on Tuesday morning, according to state-run newspaper Al-Akhbar Al-Youm. The attack targeted their vehicle which was stationed at a checkpoint in Kerdasa in Giza governorate.
Anonymous militants on a motorbike opened fire against a police vehicle that was stationed at a security checkpoint on 23 July Street near Kerdasa, the newspaper reported.
The Interior Ministry verified the attack, and noted that police forces were deployed near the place of the attack to arrest perpetrators.
“Until now, there is no information regarding the health of the three injured non-commissioned officers. The Interior Ministry is now preparing a detailed statement regarding the attack,” the ministry’s media office told Daily News Egypt Tuesday.
Recently in July, non-commissioned police officer Mohamed Al-Sayed, 35, died after being wounded in an attack by anonymous gunmen in Tameyya, Fayoum.
The Fayoum attack also targeted another police officer, Mohamed Abdel Hamid, and two of his aides. Abdel Hamid was killed immediately, and the two aides were injured. Al-Sayed, one of the aides, died that Monday morning at a public hospital in Fayoum.
Following the incident, the Interior Ministry issued a statement of solidarity with Abdel Hamid and the other injured police officer, and asserted that it was making all necessary efforts to arrest the suspects.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack in Giza so far.
A string of attacks have taken place in recent weeks against police officers.
