An official in Telecom Egypt (TE), who preferred to remain anonymous, said that one of TE’s main cables was cut this morning, resulting in poor-quality mobile network services and cut-offs in several areas throughout Egypt.

He added that technicians and engineers are currently working to fix the issue and restore the service.

A number of mobile users complained today from repeated interruptions of the mobile network connection and poor quality of phone calls in several areas.

The number of users of mobile services in Egypt is estimated at 94 million. The number of mobile internet users exceeds 20 million.

The three mobile operators—Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat—depend on TE’s infrastructure to offer their services as TE is the owner of the telecommunication’s sector infrastructure in Egypt.
