Egyptian Nouran Gohar wins 2016 WSF World Junior Squash Championship

2016 WSF World Junior Squash Championships’ champion, Egyptian Nouran Gohar

Several Egyptian squash players stood out at the 2016 WSF World Junior Squash Championship in Poland, concluding with an all-Egyptian female final match.

The final match of the girls’ competition took place between Nouran Gohar and Rowan El-Araby, with Gohar beating her opponent with a score of 3-0.

Four Egyptian girls had reached the quarter-finals, including Gohar, El-Araby, Hania El-Hammay, and Amina Youssry.

Leading up to the quarter-finals, Gohar defeated her compatriot Zeina Meckawy, Youssry won against American Casey Wong, El-Araby beat American Marina Stefanoi, and El-Hammay defeated Hong Kong’s Hiu Lam Lui. All of the abovementioned matches ended with a score of 3-0.

In the quarter-finals, after defeating New Zealand’s Eleanor Epke with a score of 3-0, Gohar qualified for the semfinals. El-Hammay also qualified for the semfinals, thanks to her win against England’s Amelia Henley (3-0), while El-Araby qualified after defeating Malaysian Andrea Lee (3-1). Youssry exited the tournament after losing to Malaysian Siva Subarmaniam (3-2).

In the semifinals, Gohar defeated Subarmaniam (3-0), and El-Araby defeated her compatriot El-Hammay (3-0). As for the boys’ competition, after beating French Victor Crouin (3-1), Egyptian Youssef Ibrahim qualified for the quarter-finals. Egyptian Marawan Tarek also qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Jordanian Mohammad Al-Sarraj (3-0), and Egyptian Saad El-Din Abouaish followed them by winning against Iranian Sajad Zareian (3-2).

Only two of the three Egyptian players qualified for the semifinals: Abouaish, thanks to his victory against French Benjamin Aubert (3-2), and Ibrahim after winning against Japanese Ryunosuke Tsukue (3-1). Tarek exited the tournament after losing to Pakistani Israr Ahmed (3-2).

Abouaish proceeded to the finals after beating Ahmed (3-1), while Ibrahim lost to Malaysian Eain Yow Ng (3-1), exiting the tournament.

In the final match, Abouaish lost to Eain Yow Ng.
