Number of post offices increase in first quarter of 2016

A report by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology showed that the number of post offices increased slightly by 0.51% in the first quarter of 2016. The number rose from 3,904 offices to 3,924 offices in the first quarter this year compared to the first quarter of last year.

Moreover, the report noted that these offices serve 22,400 citizens, compared to 22,100 year-on-year (y-o-y)—marking a 1.3% growth rate. Roughly 5.60 million people used these offices every month over the first quarter to withdraw pensions, compared to 5.06 million people in the same period last year, representing an 11.07% growth.

The ministry pointed out that the number of universities that use computers amounted to 86.5% of all universities in Egypt, while those that use laptops are 72.07%. About 93.5% of universities in Egypt were also reported to use computers for managing employee data, and 90.5% of universities used software to manage academic staff.

Furthermore, the amount of universities that deal with e-government services stood at 47.8%, while that of universities that utilised e-commerce methods recorded 8.8%.

As for internet, the report stated that about 94.7% of internet users access the web from home, compared to 75.8% of users who access it from academic institutions. Only 16.7% used public library computers. Meanwhile, 15% said they used the computers of relatives and friends to access the internet, 7% from cyber cafes, 7% from technology labs, and 3.7% from youth centres.
