Parliament approves church construction law

Church officials said they rejected security interference in construction permits and imposed restrictions on activities held by the church Mahmoud Nasr

The parliament approved during a session on Tuesday the final draft of the church construction law, after a two-thirds majority of members of parliament voted for its approval.

Following the approval, the MPs who were attending the session immediately chanted, celebrating national unity with the national anthem.

The parliamentary speaker Ali Abdul Aal confirmed that they approved the bill after a required two-thirds majority of MPs voted on its approval.

The law has finally been approved after long-debate over its contents in parliament. Its approval was requested to end sectarian strife incidents.
