Jumia Egypt, the e-commerce website, announced the latest consumer behaviour trends, stating that the majority of online shopping continues to be dominated by the consumer electronics market. In preparation for the back–to-school season, Jumia is launching Electroshock—an online event that will offer up to 50% discounts on mobile devices, tablets, computers, TVs, game consoles, audio and video technology, cameras, and accessories.

Shopping during this time of the year is influenced by the consumers’ demand for back-to-school products, specifically on products that are prioritised by the consumer.

“Partnering with the top key brands in the market, Electroshock is a campaign that fights the increase in prices that Egyptians are currently experiencing, with a fulfilling assortment for all kind of demands,” said Hesham Safwat, CEO of Jumia Egypt.

Moreover, the new insights show that during the back-to-school period, shoppers tend to buy tablets and similar products that would be used for work, free-time, and daily performance rather than shopping for leisure products such as TVs and game consoles. Consumers prioritise their shopping and focused on necessary products for their return from the summer holidays.

Jumia uses research to provide its customers with the most suitable annual campaigns throughout the year, such as Mobile Week in May, Electroshock in August, and Black Friday in November—in imitation of the infamous shopping event in the US.

Electroshock is taking place from 29 August to 4 September.
