The Ministry of Industry and Trade signed an agreement of cooperation with the Alexandria governorate, in the field of small and medium-sized projects. The agreement included the possibility of usufruct in the industrial complex on the petrochemicals road in Margham, Alexandria, for a renewable period of 30 years.
The contract states that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will handle the issuing of usufructs for investors, since it is an important tool to raise the bar of competition for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and to revive the social and economic standard of the area.
Governor of Alexandria Mohamed Abd El-Zaher signed the agreement with the head of the executive arm of the General Authority for Industrial and Mining Projects Osama Hashad, representing the ministry.
The Minister of Industry and Trade Tarek Kabil said that this agreement is part of the ministry’s plans to develop SMEs by turning them into complete, executive projects, that abide by specific performance indicators, follow ups, evaluations, and measurements of impact.
The industrial complex feeds into the ministry’s vision of building specialised industrial hubs, with this one targeted towards the plastics industry, taking advantage of its geographic location close to the biggest petrochemicals companies in Alexandria, Kabil said. This creates a web of interrelated relationships between big and small companies, while creating more job opportunities for the youth, he added.
The minister pointed out that the industrial complex includes 240 workshops in Al-Nahda Road in the petrochemicals zone of Al-Ameriyah, 37km away from Alexandria. It will also include 180 units of 100 metres each, and 60 units of 200 metres each, over 25 acres of land, provided with the main services.
The project will cost around EGP 48.6m, which are provided from different sources, such as the ministries of international cooperation and local development, the Alexandria governorate, and an investment bank, Kabil stated.
Zaher confirmed that the governorate is keen on participating in the project through allocating the available resources in cooperation of the interested bodies, in order to realise the government’s goals and strategies regarding industrial development plans.
He also said that the governorate is committed to offer all kinds of support to make the project a success, and that it will hand it over a month after signing the contract. By that time, the area will have been completed with basic infrastructure, such as water, electricity, sanitation, a fire extinguishing system, management buildings, a mosque, a water treatment plant, and transformers.
Hashad stated that the executive arm of the authority will offer technical, technological, training, and marketing support, along with feasibility studies for investors. The entity will also follow up with other governmental bodies to facilitate getting the quality assurance and export certificates.
The authority will also prepare the to-be-executed designs and submit them, in accordance with the standard specifications that the specialised authorities agreed on.
