Former Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger won’t be playing any European football for the rest fo the year. His club have elected not to take him along on its Europa League campaign.
Manchester United officially have nominated 27 players for the first stages of this season’s Europa League, including ten midfielders. But 32-year-old Bastian Schweinsteiger is not among them.

The German, who moved from Bayern Munich to Manchester last year, has fallen out of favor with the Red Devils new coach José Mourinho. The Portugese has said he sees at least five players ahead of Schweinsteiger at his favored position.

Schweinsteiger was included in United’s squad for their domestic campaign in the Premiership, and he could theoretically still be nominated for the Europa League when that competition goes into the knock-out stages. But he’s yet to play in a competitive match under Mourinho and has been training with the team’s reserves.

Schweinsteiger has said he has no plans to leave Manchster for another club in Europe.
