President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi will attend the upcoming general debate of the 71st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, heading a delegation of ministers.
The debate session will be held from 20-30 September at the UN headquarters, bringing together country leaders from more than 190 countries.
The theme of this year’s session is “The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): a universal push to transform our world.”
The session’s provisional agenda will focus on issues of economic growth, peace and security, promotion of human rights, justice and international law, among other administrative and budget matters.
This will be the third time for Al-Sisi to participate in the UNGA. However, this year’s participation is exceptional due to Egypt’s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council.
Last year, country leaders adopted a new development agenda for the SDG until 2030, increasing the number of goals to 17 goals and addressing new items for the first time, like climate changes, life under water, clean energy, and mental health, among other issues.
