Egypt is closely following the progress of the 9/11 bill in the US and its impact on international relations in the upcoming period, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid.
According to Abou Zeid, Egypt agrees that President Barack Obama’s veto against the legislation aligns with international law and the standards of international diplomatic relations; in addition, it ensures equality and justice and not imposing internal laws on other countries.
However, the US congress issued a decision on Wednesday to override the president’s decision to veto the 9/11 bill.
The legislation would allow civilians—victims families in the 9/11 attack—to file lawsuits against the Saudi Arabian government over its purported involvement in the attack.
