The government plans to expand the implementation of social protection networks through providing social safety programmes for the most needy groups, said Prime Minister Sherif Ismail.
On Tuesday evening, Ismail held a meeting for the Social Justice Committee to discuss the expansion plan, cash support programmes, and dignity and solidarity programme.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of planning, social solidarity, supply, and the deputy finance minister.
The prime minister took measures to support those with low-income by establishing a committee of ministers, including the ministers of planning, social solidarity, supply, and finance. The measures also directed that the president of the Central Agency for Public for Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) would meet immediately with committee members to determine standards of reviewing those who would be eligible for subsidised food commodities ration cards.
This is in addition to the launching of lending programmes to children whose families benefit from the Dignity and Solidarity Programme, all working together in preparation for the launching of the Opportunity Economic Integration Programmes by the end 2016.
The Dignity and Solidarity Programme provides cash support for impoverished families that need financial support and on condition that they have children under the age of 18.
The subsidy is worth about EGP 325 per month, EGP 60 for primary schools students, EGP 80 pounds for middle school students, and EGP 100 for secondary students. The mother of the household is to receive the subsidy cumulatively every three months, on condition that children continue in school and receive regular health services.
Dignity and solidarity programmes also grant monthly cash assistance amounting to EGP 350 to those with disabilities and cannot work or do not have a steady income and for seniors over the age of 65.
