President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi delivered a speech on Wednesday ahead of the 43rd anniversary of the 6 October war in 1973.

More than 40 years passed since the war, where Egyptians set a new example in challenging rough circumstances and moving to a brighter future, Al-Sisi said.

He highlighted Egypt’s economic and political challenges during the war, in the wake of the 1967 defeat. “If it weren’t for the unity of Egyptians, we would not have made that achievement,” he said, referring to the 6 October war.

By linking those circumstances with current political and economic challenges, Al-Sisi called on all Egyptians to unite in order to resolve them.

“We strive to meet the aspirations of Egyptians to find better standards of living,” Al-Sisi said, referring to national projects undertaken since his appointment in 2014.

Further, Al-Sisi tackled the “strong ties” between the public and the armed forces, saying that this was the main asset in the 1973 victory. He recognised the role of military personnel in fighting “black terrorism” and saluted martyrs.
