For the first time, Egypt served as host for the 2016 World Helices Championship, which took place at the Shooting Club.
Aya El-Kaddah, an Egyptian shooter competing at the championship, told Daily News Egypt: “This championship was always celebrated in Europe; this year Egypt is the hosting country […] next year it will take place in the USA.”
The team competitions were subdivided to five categories: junior, veterans, women’s, super veterans, and open.
The Egyptian team (Moatasem El-Aish, Ziad Selim, and Yassin Eishra) surprised the audience by winning the junior competitions. The British junior team (Fletcher King, Mason Rickard, and Cahrles Pomfret) were the runners-up.
Egypt’s victories did not stop at the junior competition, as the veteran team (Evangelos Neamontis, Abdel Azizi El-Soussy, and Hisham El-Sawy) also won their division’s competitions. The Italian team (Franco Tassinari, Andrea Martignoni, and Claudio Sangiorgi) placed the second and third was obtained by the Argentinean team (Jorge Oscar Santini, Jose Osvalde Rojas, and Ruben Atilio Camusso).
As for the women’s competitions, the British team (Dionne Rogers, Caroline Marshall, and Jane Bell) were the champions. Second place went to the Italian team, (Lancellotti Massimo, Gloria Lombardi, and Paola Tattini). The Egyptian team (Jaida Farid, Reem Safar, and Suzan Gaber) placed third.
Teams that have same rankings but different players made up the super veteran division teams. British team (John Nightingale, Ivor Dadswell, and Cristopher Potter) ranked first followed by the Italian team (Marco Selva, Alberto Olivieri, and Giovanni Rodenghi). Third place went to the Egyptian team (Mostafa Korani, Misak Lilikian, and Mahmoud El-Itreby).
The US’s team (Mimi Wilfong, Micheal Sellers, and Samuel Shiller) won the open competitions. The Egyptian team (Mohamed Abouzeidm, Mohamed Fouad, and Tarek Mohsen) took second place. Third place was acquired by the Argentinean team (Sebastian Andres Menna, Javier Oviedo, and Alberca Marcelo Jose).
