Former head of Al-Haram Prosecution Authority will hear the Cairo Criminal Court’s verdict on 9 January for charges of deliberately burning evidence.

According to state media reports on Wednesday, the exhibits he was trying to destroy regarded investigations into a case related to embezzlement inside Al-Haram police station over the course of three years.

In June, Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek ordered the detention of Mohamed Aboul Hasab, the head of a prosecution department at Al-Haram Prosecution Authority, accusing him of “plotting with a defendant to set fire to a room where evidence was stored”.

The case also includes other employees in the prosecution.

A media gag was imposed on the case in June.
