After nearly six months in pre-trial detention, activist Haitham Mohamedain was released from Al-Saf police station in Giza, after the court ordered his release four days ago.
An online campaign has been calling for his release, arguing that he is legally allowed to leave the security headquarters.
Usually when prisoners are released from the court, they are deported to the police station where they are registered at. In cases of political prisoners, they await the procedures of the National Security Apparatus, which carries out further investigations.
He was accused of unlicensed protesting, spreading false news, and belonging to an outlawed group. Others that faced similar charges have also received release orders, including activist Zizo Abdo, journalist Amr Badr, and journalist Mahmoud Al-Saqa.
